Stay At Home And Die – Smudge

Stay at Home and Die

Stay at Home and Die is a band name that almost feels apt for the current time we are living in as another potential full lockdown of the UK appears to be on the horizon, and this four-piece from Birmingham have recently released debut single ‘Smudge’.

‘Smudge’ is a punky/emo number that is very catchy. Pounding drums and driving guitars set a heavy tone but the honeyed vocal of singer Ellie Ashford brings the song back in to pop territory. It’s short but sweet at just one minute & 45 seconds. Probably too short to be fair because the song leaves you wanting more. But maybe that is the quartet’s plan. To make us desperate to hear the next release. It’s definitely got me intrigued. I also want to see them live when that can happen and get them on an Indie Midlands show.

“Smudge is a song about the rollercoaster of emotions that come along with being in a relationship. It’s about arguing with someone and wanting them to leave you be but hating the silence when they’re away and still feeling smitten by them” – Stay at Home and Die.
