CAR BOMB Goes Full-On Anime For “Blindsides” Single

Extreme metal architects Car Bomb have returned with a brand new single, “Blindsides”, the second track to be revealed from their upcoming EP Tiles Whisper Dreams, due out August 1. Marking the band’s first release since 2019’s Mordial and coinciding with their 25th anniversary, Tiles Whisper Dreams promises to be both a celebration of Car Bomb’s boundary-pushing legacy and a bold leap forward into new sonic dimensions.

Opening with an off-kilter groove and erupting into a vortex of laser-precise riffs, “Blindsides” encapsulates Car Bomb’s unique ability to collapse time signatures and expectations within the space of a single track. As the song spirals through violent dissonance and warped textures, it eventually gives way to a surprising and emotionally charged melodic turn, showcasing vocalist Michael Dafferner at both his most brutal and most transcendent.

Car Bomb guitarist Greg Kubacki, the band’s resident sonic engineer, explains that their sound comes from years of unorthodox experimentation: “One has to sort of get lost in their own world to find their own unique sound, and that just comes from a lot of trial and error,” Kubacki notes.

The track’s visual component is equally unhinged. The “Blindsides” video is described by Kubacki as “a fake trailer for a fictitious 80’s animated movie,” pulling from surrealist influences including Akira, Aeon Flux, Studio Ghibli, and the dream-logic of David Lynch. Pre-orders for Tiles Whisper Dreams are available here.
