In a detailed statement shared via social media, Ed Sheeran has addressed the controversy surrounding the decision to remove Macklemore from his ongoing tour. The singer-songwriter clarified that the move was not his personal choice, but rather the result of intense pressure from the Messina Touring Group and various venue owners who took issue with the rapper’s recent political commentary.

The tension escalated following Macklemore‘s performances at MetLife Stadium, where he made explicit statements regarding the conflict in Gaza. According to Ed Sheeran, he personally attempted to mediate the situation, including direct conversations with high-profile figures such as Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft. Despite these efforts to build bridges and maintain the tour’s original lineup, the venue owners remained steadfast in their opposition.

“I have spent this week trying to build bridges, to find a solution and unfortunately, was unable to do so,” Ed Sheeran wrote. “I know who I am, both as a person and as an artist, and those who know my heart know my values too.” He emphasized that his primary responsibility remained to his fans, his touring crew, and the other support acts who rely on the tour for their livelihoods.

Robert Kraft later confirmed his stance, stating that Macklemore was barred from Gillette Stadium due to what he described as a history of offensive rhetoric. Meanwhile, Macklemore has publicly alleged that Robert Kraft coordinated with other stadium owners to issue an ultimatum, threatening to cancel shows if the rapper remained on the bill.
