Annie Taylor – The Fool

Annie Taylor

Annie Taylor are an indie rock quartet from Switzerland. Having released their debut album ‘Sweet Mortality’ in 2020 they have returned with a new double single ‘The Fool’/’Unspoken’. For the sake of this review we are looking at ‘The Fool’, the closing track from last years LP.

Vocalist Gini Jungi had the following to say about the song:

“For me, ‘The Fool’ is definitely the most meaningful song on the record. I wrote it with great heartbreak and remember even shedding a few tears when I first played it on my guitar. It’s about longing for someone’s love and how you catch yourself always spinning aimlessly in circles, making a ‘fool’ of yourself.“

Musically ‘The Fool’ has a dynamic lead guitar hook that mashes well the rhythm section on the verses. The chorus brings more melody whilst Jungi’s vocals bring a cool swagger to what overall is a very cocky and confident track. At times the song has a slight Spaghetti Western vibe to it. Imagine Warpaint playing in a bar in a Sergio Leone movie and you’d be in the correct ballpark.

Give it a spin.
