Half Waif – Orange Blossoms
‘Orange Blossoms’ is the shimmeringly haunting new single from Hudson Valley-based Half Waif.
The new single comes off the back of 2020’s critically acclaimed album ‘The Caretaker’ and the singer-songwriter believes ‘Orange Blossoms’ is a continuation of that work.
But then, that’s easy to understand when you know the album was penned about Half Waif’s Nandi Rose and her personal experience of caring for someone close to her struggling with addiction.
Even though ‘The Caretaker’ was an emotional 11 track journey, there are some trauma’s in life which transcend sense-making. Which is potentially why we now have the new single ‘Orange Blossoms’ as well as the accompanying video.
Rose said of the new track:
“I wrote ‘Orange Blossoms’ soon after finishing ‘The Caretaker’, and in some ways, it feels like the next chapter in that story,“
The single takes you on an expedition through some of the complex emotions Rose was feeling during this difficult period in her life. For me the track is raised above the normal, with an ethereal beauty which can only be matched and then progressed with Nandi’s stunning vocal performance.
Vulnerable, elegant, yet with a determined strength to it. ‘Orange Blossoms’ is the follow up to ‘The Caretaker’ we all needed.
