IMOGEN – Lioncub

IMOGEN

Following the success of her last single ‘Bloodbag’, Newcastle-born artist IMOGEN has just released ‘Lioncub’; a cinematic song which uses playful lyrics and atmospheric instrumentation to display her own loss of innocence. Written after leaving home for London, IMOGEN was left feeling isolated and without a sense of identity. She would go on to turn these emotions into ‘Lioncub’, a track released days after her impressive appearance at the prestigious Latitude Festival.

‘Lioncub’ wastes no time with introduction, opening with IMOGEN’s whispered vocals accompanied by an echoed backing track. The dramatic instrumental is paired with jarring lyrics to create an intimate, breath-taking effect as it is almost as if IMOGEN is singing next to you.

Additionally, I feel the need to praise the quality of IMOGEN’s vocal performance. It is the perfect match for this emotional song and her elegance permeates throughout the track. Furthermore, I particularly appreciate the ghostly ending to the track: with its decadent vocals and siren-like instrumentation.

In summary, IMOGEN’s rawness and vulnerability makes this track one of excellence and is certainly not one to miss. IMOGEN’s forthcoming EP will be released on the 30th of September. I strongly encourage you to checkout IMOGEN’s impressive discography on the streaming platforms, Spotify and SoundCloud.
