Matahara – Blue Dreams

Matahara

21-year-old musician Matahara from Jakarta is set to release her debut EP ‘Triple Alliteration’ on March 19th. This review focusses on her new single ‘Blue Dreams’. Matahara has listed some of her influences as Lorde and The Cure to name just a few. Matahara started writing music at age 15 after moving from “beautifully chaotic” and “loud” Jakarta to Melbourne, Australia.‘

Blue Dreams’ starts with a bouncy, raw and dynamic sounding acoustic guitar with audible fret slide sounds, quickly followed by the introduction of vocals. ‘Blue Dreams’ is about the artists various experiences of being with guys and how she wishes she could “mash them all together”. Repeated lyrics like “You’re the boy of my dreams” almost seems to aim at inducing a trance-like state in the listener.

This single has many fun twists and turns considering it is only 3 minutes and 58 seconds long, for example the introduction of electronic drums and synths around a minute in really changes the vibe of the song from chilled acoustic bliss to something even more enjoyable. After hearing this single I am excited by the prospect of listening to the rest of the EP and suggest you do too.
