Radiohead’s ‘Kid A Mnesia’ Motion Picture House Experience to Open at Coachella

An Immersive Journey into the Radiohead Archive

Radiohead’s immersive, multimedia “Motion Picture House” installation, Kid A Mnesia, is set to make its highly anticipated debut at Coachella this weekend, beginning on April 10. The installation offers fans a unique opportunity to step inside the creative world of the band, housed within a massive 17,000-square-foot bunker at the Empire Polo Fields, complete with striking 38-foot ceilings.

The experience features a film showcasing artwork by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood, created during the band’s prolific sessions for their seminal albums Kid A and Amnesiac, released in 2000 and 2001. The visuals are synchronized to a soundtrack culled from the original multitracks, presented in six-point surround sound, while the Motion Picture House galleries display the artists’ full-scale work from that era.

While the band successfully launched their first tour dates since 2018 last year, the band members will not be in attendance at the Coachella installation.

A Relic of a Forgotten Time

A trailer for the installation depicts the silhouette of a horned creature moving through a stark red background, eventually encountering human-like figures in a white space, all set to an ambient soundscape. Thom Yorke offered a cryptic glimpse into the film’s narrative, stating: “In which a Monster is trapped in a derelict museum of the lost & forgotten. A relic of a time when technology could have saved us.”

Global Residency and Ticket Information

Following its Coachella run, the Kid A Mnesia installation will embark on a series of multi-week residencies in Brooklyn, Chicago, Mexico City, and San Francisco, extending into next year. Tickets will be distributed via Fair AXS, with fans encouraged to pre-register on a bespoke website to be notified if they are selected for the opportunity to purchase tickets. A general on-sale is scheduled for 10 a.m. local time on April 24.

Visitors should plan for a two-hour experience, consisting of a 75-minute audiovisual show followed by time to explore the gallery space. Originally released as a box set anthology in 2021, the project was previously an exhibition directed by Sean Evans for the Epic Games Store and PS5. Motion Picture House represents the definitive way Radiohead intended for fans to engage with this expansive project.

Regarding the band’s future touring plans, Ed O’Brien recently shared with Rolling Stone that they have established a sustainable touring model. “What we’re going to do is, every year we’re going to do a different continent, and we’re going to do 20 shows each year,” he explained. “No more, no less.” As the band is taking 2026 off, fans will have to wait until next year to see where they head next.
