BENT SEA (MEGADETH, ABORTED, NAPALM DEATH) Grinds Hard On New Single “A Scopic Radiance”

Do you need some grindcore in your life? Great! Bent Sea has you covered for about 70 seconds. Then you’re on your own. Bent Sea – the band featuring Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth), Sven de Caluwé (Aborted) on vocals, Shane Embury (Napalm Death) on bass – is now streaming “A Scopic Radiance” from their long-awaited debut album The Dormant Ruin due out September 5.
The Dormant Ruin is twenty tracks, thirty-three minutes, and a sound that tears apart grindcore’s foundations and rebuilds them with jagged edges of death metal, blackened textures, industrial abrasions, and overwhelming dissonance. The record was produced by Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, Dark Funeral), whose sharp, modern production frames the chaos without dulling its teeth; and mastered by Lawrence Mackrory (Obey Mastering).
As the band explains, The Dormant Ruin is about urgency — music as an unstoppable natural force. Like the album’s title suggests, this isn’t a rebirth but an eruption after years of quiet tension. Staying true to their collaborative history, Bent Sea stacked The Dormant Ruin with special guests, each lending their own venom to the storm: Kevin Sharp (Venomous Concept, ex-Brutal Truth), John Cooke (Napalm Death, Venomous Concept), and Sylvain Coudret (Soilwork, Scarve).
Formed in 2011 by Verbeuren, Bent Sea erupted onto the scene with the Noistalgia EP, a fierce homage to grindcore’s raw beginnings. Featuring Devin Townsend as a guest and later bringing in Sven de Caluwé and Shane Embury, the project had instant underground pedigree. Over the following years, Bent Sea scattered their output across split releases and the Instagrind series, each one featuring a roster of guests from across the extreme metal spectrum.
