BLACK SABBATH’s BILL WARD Is Working On Two New Solo Records

While Black Sabbath may be preparing for a final farewell this weekend, founding drummer Bill Ward isn’t slowing down. In fact, he’s diving back into his solo career with renewed focus. In a recent interview with LA Radio Sessions, Ward revealed that he’s currently working on two new solo albums — his first original material in nearly a decade.

“We’ve been in the studio. We’ve been living in the studio, is what we’ve been doing. And we’ve got two albums that are nearly finished. And we will put them out. And we are finishing up,” Ward said.

“We’ve gotta go back in the studio in about another week. And we’ve got four days left to finish our final overdubs for the newest album that’ll be coming out. And we haven’t got it mixed yet. But we’ll get that done too.”

These upcoming records will mark Ward‘s first solo releases since 2015’s Accountable Beasts — an album praised for its raw emotion and experimental take on heavy rock.

Accountable Beasts remains his only solo album currently available on Spotify, though his earlier works (Ward One: Along the Way and When the Bough Breaks) are cult favorites among Sabbath and classic rock aficionados.

Speaking of Ward, he’s down for one more Black Sabbath record as the band retires from the stage this weekend.

Black Sabbath will play their final-ever concert on July 5, 2025, with a historic farewell event titled Back to the Beginning at Villa Park in Birmingham, England—their hometown and birthplace of heavy metal. The show will feature a reunion of the band’s classic lineup: Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, marking their first performance together in two decades. Ozzy will open with a solo segment before joining Black Sabbath for their last set, though his appearance will be limited due to health issues.

The all-day event includes performances by Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Alice in Chains, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon, along with a supergroup curated by Tom Morello featuring Slash, Duff McKagan, Billy Corgan, Jonathan Davis, Zakk Wylde, and more. A global pay-per-view livestream will be available for £24.99 (or ~$29.99 USD), with a 48-hour replay window.

The concert will run for over 10 hours and is hosted by actor Jason Momoa. Proceeds from the event will benefit Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice.
