FIMBUL WINTER (Ex-AMON AMARTH) Announces Their Debut EP For This November

Future Swedish death metal juggernaut Fimbul Winter will make their official debut this fall with the release of the five-track EP What Once Was, due out November 14, 2025.

Formed by former Amon Amarth founding members Anders Biazzi (formerly Anders Hansson) and Niko Kaukinen, alongside longtime Amon Amarth drummer Fredrik Andersson and Clint Williams (Munitions) on vocals, Fimbul Winter represents unfinished business and a renewed dedication to the roots of Swedish melodic death metal. Tobias Cristiansson (Necrophobic, Grave, Dismember) provides session bass.

Blending decades of history with uncompromising intensity, What Once Was is a bold statement — icy, furious, and authentic. Fans can expect rediscovered riffs dating back to Amon Amarth‘s earliest days, woven seamlessly with new compositions forged in the old-school tradition.

The band’s roots trace back to a spontaneous reunion, when Biazzi and Kaukinen revisited Amon Amarth‘s 1994 demo The Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter. What began as a nostalgic performance quickly grew into a powerful vision: a new band committed to channeling the ferocity of the early Swedish scene while moving boldly into the future.

Fimbul Winter is not a side project or a nostalgia trip,” the band declares. “It’s about carrying the torch of Swedish death metal forward — cold, fierce, and uncompromising.”

What Once Was will be released on November 14, 2025 via Profound Lore Records. Stay tuned for the debut single, arriving soon.

Fimbul Winter played their first show on the Close-Up Båten cruise in September 2024 where they played Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter alongside some early material.

“The focus for now is to play the old demo and classic songs we were all involved with in some way but we already have five original new songs written and demoed, some songs including riffs that were originally written for Amon Amarth, which will be recorded and released at some point,” said Fimbul Winter of their formation and plans at the time.

“The idea started with Niko wanting to play the demo The Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter, which he recorded over 30 years ago, at his 50th-birthday party. Fredrik thought it sounded like fun and offered to play the guitar. After that Anders was asked to join in and then with the addition of friends Linus Nirbrant on bass and Clint on vocals, a selected amount of friends got to experience this unique lineup and hear the tracks that once laid the foundation to what was to become.

“Having so much fun playing together and realizing all three former members had a ton of killer old-school material, the decision to keep on playing and to eventually record new songs was made.”
