Governor GAVIN NEWSOM Says KID ROCK No Longer Allowed To Perform In California Because Of “His Horrific Music”

California Governor Gavin Newsom over the last few months has garnered attention for his new approach to social media. Seemingly following Trump‘s lead, not only is he tweeting in all caps, but he’s talking about what should be irrelevant issues to government officials, like the rebranding of Cracker Barrel, and signing off with “Thank you for your attention to this matter.” It caught enough attention that Vice President J.D. Vance went on Fox News to say that Newsom “can’t mimic President Trump‘s style. He is who he is,” to which Newsom eloquently responded, “Couch boy, I’m not mimicking Dozy Don. I’m mocking him. Only someone with a law degree from Chuck E. Cheese could be as dumb as you!!! – GCN.”
And Kid Rock has had far from a spotless career. For decades, he’s come under fire for using the Confederate flag in performances, using homophobic slurs and doubling down on it by using the same one again, fighting Tommy Lee at the VMAs, telling Rolling Stone “People are like, ‘Beyoncé’s hot. Got a nice f—ing a–.’ I’m like, ‘Cool, I like skinny white chicks with big tits.’ Doesn’t really f—ing do much for me,” selling pro-Trump shirts, supporting Morgan Wallen after Wallen was caught saying a racial slur, and earlier this year, performing at Trump‘s inauguration. Since his rather unfavourable performance, he became a close advisor to Trump in regards to ticket gouging legislation earlier in March.
Back in August, Governor Gavin Newsom tweeted that he “hated” Kid Rock before later asking the next day if “anyone noticed that since I said “I hate Kid Rock” he’s no longer ‘hot?’.” And it seems like Governor Newsom has taken it a step even further yesterday (20th September) by tweeting, “Because of his horrific music, California will indefinitely suspend Kid Rock from performing in the Golden State. You’re welcome! – GCN.”
Sources like ThePRP believe that Newsom‘s comments may be in relation to ABC suspending Jimmy Kimmel‘s late night television show and the FCC’s involvement in the suspension, signalling larger issues regarding freedom of speech. There are mixed reports that Disney, the owner of ABC, has lost anywhere from $1.5 billion to $3.87 billion in stock value due to subscriber’s cancelling their Disney+ subscriptions by the bucketload. Regardless, Newsom may have taken issue with what appears to be silencing voices that criticise Trump, and has barred Kid Rock from performing in California for the foreseeable future.
It should also be noted that Governor Gavin Newsom has been a staunch supporter of free speech, even inviting the deceased Charlie Kirk to be a guest on his podcast where the two had a civil debate over the course of an hour, even laughing here and there. With that in mind, Newsom‘s suspension of Kid Rock performances can make it feel more like a commentary about free speech than anything else.
