Hulu Unveils Trailer for Into The Void: Life, Death & Heavy Metal

The first trailer has dropped for Into The Void: Life, Death & Heavy Metal, an eight-part documentary series set to premiere September 22 on Hulu. Created by Jason Eisner and Evan Husney — the duo behind Vice TV’s cult hit Dark Side of the Ring — the show promises to peel back the distortion and spectacle to reveal heavy metal’s most human, harrowing, and inspirational stories.

Billed as an unflinching exploration of the genre’s underbelly, Into The Void: Life, Death & Heavy Metal traces the struggles and cultural impact of metal’s most compelling figures, tackling themes of murder, addiction, rebellion, identity, and redemption. Mixing unseen archival footage with first-hand accounts, the series goes beyond headlines and mythology to show how trauma and resilience shaped some of the scene’s most misunderstood artists.

The season’s lineup is both wide-ranging and raw:

  1. Episode 1: Randy Rhoads — The prodigy whose life and career were cut short by tragedy.
  2. Episode 2: Kurt Struebing (NME) — A psychotic break, an unspeakable crime, and a mysterious death that still haunts Seattle’s underground.
  3. Episode 3: Judas Priest on Trial — The courtroom battle that nearly scapegoated heavy metal itself.
  4. Episode 4: Chuck Schuldiner (Death) — Death metal’s architect, haunted by loss, gone too soon at 34.
  5. Episode 5: Wendy O. Williams (Plasmatics) — Punk-metal firebrand turned icon of resistance against censorship and oppression.
  6. Episode 6: Confess — Iranian teenagers facing a death sentence for blasphemy, fleeing for their lives to keep making thrash.
  7. Episode 7: Ann Boleyn (Hellion) — A pioneering woman in metal confronting misogyny and later transforming into a legal advocate.
  8. Episode 8: Pantera’s Dimebag Darrell — The shocking onstage murder that fractured friendships and shook metal to its core.

If Dark Side of the Ring turned wrestling’s hidden tragedies into must-watch TV, Into The Void looks set to do the same for heavy metal — bringing its darker, deeper, and more complex history into the spotlight.
