I PREVAIL Drop Haunting New Single, “Annihilate Me”

People have been watching I Prevail since the departure of their clean vocalist, Brian Burkheiser, earlier this year, watching, waiting to see what I Prevail will do – will they rise to the occasion, or will they fall apart? And the band clapped back at that question with the heaviest song of their career, “Violent Nature,” dirty vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe‘s abilities on full display as he bellows screams from his gut and rips through shrieking vocals in the back of his throat, the entirety of the band ripping through riffs and blast beats. It was a hell of a statement.

Then, “Rain” was released. This time, Vanlerberghe‘s clean vocals were put to the test as he sang an introduction and chorus that wouldn’t be amiss on an old I Prevail record, coasting gently through the chorus before the end of the track builds into a breakdown that feels familiar before the band tears into blast beats and shrieking riffs. “Into Hell” is deceptively melodic, the lightest song of the three.

Yesterday, “Annihilate Me” was released, the fourth single off the band’s upcoming record, Violent Nature, out September 19th, and it first, the track makes you think it’ll be another “Into Hell,” melodic track, but it’s more of a slow burning of intensity as Vanlerberghe balances the two styles, similarly to “Rain.”

It feels like an I Prevail song through and through, as if Vanlerberghe was just filling in for Burkheiser, but in reality, Vanlerberghe can handle both responsibilities himself, and flourish doing so. It’s easiest song for I Prevail fans who have been struggling with the change, even Vanlerberghe says it’s the closest thing to their previous catalogue on the upcoming record:

“‘Annihilate Me’ feels like one of the most I Prevail songs on the album. It’s about opening yourself up over and over again only to keep getting cut down, but regardless of how many times you’ve been pushed down you’re going to push yourself further – even if that means your own annihilation.”

It feels as if the record is forecasted to be one that plays with the two sides of I Prevail‘s sound – melodic, and just straight filth.
