MASTODON To Discuss Their 2004 Album Leviathan As A Part Of The Metropolitan Opera’s Series Of Talks

Mark your calendars, because Mastodon is hitting the stage on February 28 at the BRIC in Brooklyn, NY to discuss how Herman Melville‘s 1851 novel Moby-Dick influenced their 2004 album Leviathan. The discussion will also feature composer Jake Heggie, who scored the 2010 opera about Melville‘s classic novel, plus composers Tamar-kali and David T. Little. It’s also wild to see Mastodon being advertised for something associated with the Metropolitan Opera House.
“Metal? And opera? Groundbreaking,” wrote the Metropolitan Opera House in a post. “Mark your calendars for Friday, February 28, when members of legendary metal band Mastodon meet composer Jake Heggie at the BRIC in Brooklyn to celebrate the Met premiere of Heggie’s Moby-Dick and the 20th anniversary of Mastodon‘s landmark album Leviathan. Join us as the composer and members of the band discuss Herman Melville‘s novel as a shared source of inspiration, alongside fellow metalhead composers Tamar-kali and David T. Little.”
