Conceptual records, or concept records, is a record in which has one single theme running throughout each and every track, intertwining them in some way. Concept records can follow a narrative, fall under one specific umbrella of ideas, illustrating the world throughout a specific lens. Russian-born, UK-based n0trixx and her debut record, A Catalogue Of Madness and Melancholia tells interlinked stories of various mental health challenges in each song, soundtracked with a vociferous blend of metalcore, trap, EDM, industrial, and grunge between dialects of Russian, French and English.

Already praised by Metal Hammer, Kerrang!, Devolution, The Scene, Loud Women, Moshly, and tmrw, n0trixx is a permanent resident of the UK due to a Global Talent Visa that she received after fleeing Russia as a result of her arrest for protesting the invasion in Ukraine and lives with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) herself. Using her personal experience, alongside the lived experience of loved ones and watching them with their own struggles, n0trixx penned a conceptual album about what it’s like to live with each illness.

Self-written and produced, n0trixx says that: “A Catalogue of Madness and Melancholia is a journey into the depths of a troubled mind. I was halfway through writing the album when I realised that every track I was working on was a sonic representation of a certain mental health issue. Further into the album, I managed to create a unique collection of disorders in an audio form. It invites the listener to experience what it might be like to struggle with one of these but also stresses how important it is to take care of mental wellbeing.”

“hysteria” represents depression and suicidal ideation, “harmless” describes Borderline Personality Disorder, “Hé Toi” reflects Dissociative Identity Disorder, “St. Chaos” is about ADHD, “Spectrum” is related to autism, “Catalepsia” is inspired by a 1960s interview with a schizophrenic man, “Living Nightmares” represents psychosis, “Revenge On God” discusses the effects of dementia, and “narc (i’m so happy that you’re dead)” describes the impacts of parental narcissistic abuse – there’s very little that n0trixx missed.
