The Weekly Injection: New Releases From DARK TRANQUILLITY, GEL & More Out This Week 8/16
This week’s new heavy releases include melodic death metal masters, heaviness will lots of beeps and boops, hardcore fury, and more! To the metals…
Dark Tranquillity – Endtime Signals
Genre: Melodic death metal
Origin: Billdal, Gothenburg, Sweden
Label: Century Media
Buy now on Bandcamp
Their first album in four years sees Dark Tranquillity with a new rhythm section as once live members Joakim Strandberg Nilsson on drums and Christian Jansson on bass are now regulars. Other than that, this is your usual melodic death metal affair from these masters.
Extinction A.D. – To The Detested
Genre: Thrash/hardcore
Origin: Medford, New York
Label: Unique Leader
Buy now on Bandcamp
This thing hits. You’re getting a solid mix of old school thrash with some East Coast hardcore. Heads will bang and heads will roll on this one.
Holy Blade – Holy Blade
Genre: Punk
Origin: Los Angeles, California
Label: Closet Casket
Buy now on Bandcamp
God’s Hate‘s and Twitching Tongues‘ bassist Alec Faber is in the driver’s seat on this one. Alec, bandmates Colin and Mike from Twitching Tongues, and Cosmic Joke drummer Mac have come together to throw down some very AFI-esque punk here. Not at all what I expected from these heavy dudes, but a very fun EP.
Gel – Persona
Genre: Hardcore
Origin: New Jersey
Label: Blue Grape
Buy now on Bandcamp
Here’s another brief but satisfying one. This EP from Gel will kick your ass. It’s catchier than their previous output, but still plenty of fury.
Egor Lapp – Reasonable Nonsense
Genre: Progressive metal
Origin: Saint Petersburg, Russia
Label: Self-released
Buy now on Bandcamp
I’ve said something to this effect before writing about Egor, but if you’re a fan of Dream Theater or recent Devin Townsend you’ll probably dig Lappo‘s work. These are melodic, catchy, tastefully shreddy, and diverse prog metal tracks. He has a ton of material too. So if you dig this, you should work backwards and discover a well of awesome music from a one-man outfit.
Thotcrime – Connection Anxiety
Genre: Mathcore/metalcore
Origin: Urbana, Illinois
Label: Prosthetic
Buy now on Bandcamp
A couple years ago Thotcrime‘s D1G1T4L_DR1FT knocked me on my ass. So stoked to have them back with another wild record of electronic laden mathcore madness. Fans of The Callous Daoboys or iwrestledabearonce need to hop on board with Thotcrime here if you’re not already on board. You’ll dance, you’ll mosh, you’ll cry.
