The Weekly Injection: New Releases From NINE INCH NAILS, PARADISE LOST & More Out This Week 9/19

This week’s new heavy metal releases include animal pelt metal, a truly unique artist, Trent Reznor yelling again, and more! The the metals…

Biffy Clyro – Futique

Genre: Alternative/progressive rock
Origin: Kilmarnock, Scotland
Label: Warner Bros

Like Umphrey’s McGee last week, this is one for me. My favorite band (full stop) has returned after their longest break between albums with another anthemic, poppy yet odd record. Choruses are catchy, breakdowns are satisfyingly crunchy, and this will hit in a lot of ways. Mon the Biff, forever.

Castle Rat – The Bestiary

Genre: Heavy metal/doom
Origin: Brooklyn, New York
Label: King Volume Records/Blues Funeral Recordings

You want riffs wrapped in animal pelts? Castle Rat have you covered. The Rat Queen (Riley Pinkerton) and her spooky squad’s second record proves they’re more than a fun one-off gimmick band.

I Prevail – Violent Nature

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From NINE INCH NAILS, PARADISE LOST & More Out This Week 9/19

Genre: Metalcore/post-hardcore
Origin: Southfield, Michigan
Label: Fearless

I Prevail‘s first post-Brian Burkheiser record still hits with all the emotion and metalcore rage fans have come to expect. They’re angry when they need to be, shredding when it’s appropriate, and catchy pretty much all the time.

Igorrr – Amen

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From NINE INCH NAILS, PARADISE LOST & More Out This Week 9/19

Genre: Experimental/extreme metal
Origin: France
Label: Metal Blade

Buy now on Bandcamp

Igorrr is one of the few once in a generation artists that is truly unique. This record – like all of his records – is full of unexpected twists, sonic juxtapositions that no one else could think of, and so much weirdness. Among others this includes guest spots from both Mr. Bungle guitarists Trey Spruance and Scott Ian, which is rad on its own. Check out our exclusive with the mastermind here.

Many Eyes – Combust

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From NINE INCH NAILS, PARADISE LOST & More Out This Week 9/19

Genre: Hardcore/hard rock
Origin: Buffalo, New York
Label: Perseverance Media Group

Last year saw the debut of Keith Buckley’s Many Eyes, and they’re already back with more mayhem. This EP is high energy and full of rage. It’s remains the logical follow-up to Every Time I Die in that it feels both familiar and just enough of an artist’s evolution.

Nine Inch Nails – Tron: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From NINE INCH NAILS, PARADISE LOST & More Out This Week 9/19

Genre: Industrial/film score
Origin: Cleveland, Ohio
Label: The Null Corporation/Disney Records

Buy now on Amazon

This record is both odd and cool. Trent and Atticus are no strangers to working for Mickey Mouse (See: 2020’s Soul), but it was odd to see the NIN banner on a Disney film rather than their names. The album is largely instrumental (since it’s mostly a score) and balanced between chill, ethereal pieces and driving Challengers-esque energy. The few times Trent is on the microphone hit like Year Zero or Hesitation Marks tracks.

Novembers Doom – Major Arcana

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From NINE INCH NAILS, PARADISE LOST & More Out This Week 9/19

Genre: Gothic metal/doom
Origin: Chicago, Illinois
Label: Lupus Lounge

Buy now on Bandcamp

If you’re a fan of melodic doom/gothic metal, what a week for you! First up, there’s this gem. It’s the first new record from Novembers Doom in six years and it is fucking epic. It fills a void in my life that was most recently filled by Neon Nightmare.

Paradise Lost – Ascension

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From NINE INCH NAILS, PARADISE LOST & More Out This Week 9/19

Genre: Death metal/doom
Origin: Halifax, West Yorkshire, England
Label: Nuclear Blast

Buy now on Bandcamp

Like I said, what a week for Gothic doom fans. Old Nick Holmes and his non-Bloodbath-er buddies are closing this week out with sad, heavy jams. While this pairs nicely with the record above, it’s got more of a death metal lean.
