The Weekly Injection: New Releases From SABATON, CORONER & More Out This Week 10/17
This week’s new heavy metal releases include historical metal, haunted metal, battle metal, and more! To the metals…
Battle Beast – Steelbound

Genre: Heavy/power metal
Origin: Helsinki, Finland
Label: Nuclear Blast
Buy now on Bandcamp
Starting this week off with some epicness. Album number seven from BB includes every element of the band’s past as well as some new ones. “Here We Are” sounds like a modern pop anthem while the title-track sounds like ABBA. All with added guitar flourishes, of course.

Biohazard – Divided We Fall

Genre: Groove metal/hardcore
Origin: New York City, New York
Label: BLKIIBLK
Buy now on Amazon
Next we have Biohazard‘s first album in thirteen years and their tenth over all. Evan Seinfeld is back fronting the band and the whole outfit seems real pissed. This is raw and heavy hardcore that doesn’t let up.

Coroner – Dissonance Theory

Genre: Technical thrash
Origin: Zürich, Switzerland
Label: Century Media
Buy now on Bandcamp
Speaking of metal that doesn’t let up. The first album from Coroner in twenty-two years is an onslaught of thrash. The guitar work is especially stellar here juxtaposing a lot of melody into the pummeling.

Flagman – Before The Blast

Genre: Avant-garde metal
Origin: Seattle, Washington
Label: Self-released
Buy now on Bandcamp
If you’re looking for some weird, them dig into the new Flagman. This release is a little Primus, a little Nuclear Rabbit, and sometimes even a little Ministry. That’s just the single below. Like all their stuff, this is full of surprises.

Carach Angren – The Cult Of Kariba

Genre: Symphonic black metal
Origin: Landgraaf, Netherlands
Label: Season Of Mist)
Buy now on Bandcamp
It’s been five years since this ghouls released any new music and I’m glad the wait is finally over. These five new tracks are epic, evil, and tell the story of Schinveld’s White Lady (Google it. It’s creepy). With Halloween on a Friday and so close, it almost feels like they should have waited a couple weeks since it’s the perfect soundtrack.

Sabaton – Legends

Genre: Power metal
Origin: Falun, Sweden
Label: Better Noise
Buy now on Bandcamp
On album number eleven Sabaton have shifted their war-obsessed sights away from WW1 and such and on to all of history. This includes your usual epic power metal stylings, but this time you’re learning (whether you like it or not!) about Genghis Khan, Joan of Arc, Vlad the Impaler, and more. If you’re a history teacher put one of these songs on and consider that part of your curriculum covered.

Unto Others – I Believe In Halloween II

Genre: Gothic rock/heavy metal
Origin: Portland, Oregon
Label: Century Media Records)
Buy or sample now on Bandcamp
Just a bit over a year since their awesome Never, Neverland record, Unto Others are back with their sequel to their 2021 I Believe In Halloween EP. This time they’re haunting you with three new tracks and a pair of covers of Ramones and MIsfits songs. Like Carach Angren, this seemed poised for a Halloween day release, but this way you’ll have all the words down for when you scream the lyrics at trick or treaters.

Sunn O))) – Eternity’s Pillars b/w Raise the Chalice & Reverential

Genre: Drone
Origin: Seattle, Washington
Label: Sub Pop
Buy now on Bandcamp
The surprise EP with a catchy title has been out for a few days now, but earlier this week Sunn O))) came lurching back with a trio of new songs on a new label. They’re now labelmates with Father John Misty. Now there’s a collaboration I’d love to hear. Existential dread over bleak, fuzzy, riffs and feedback.

Wretched – Decay

Genre: Melodic/technical death metal
Origin: Charlotte, North Carolina
Label: Metal Blade
Buy now on Bandcamp
Concluding this week of bands with weirdly long album gaps with one last weirdly long album gap. Wretched‘s fifth album comes eleven years after their previous one and features the return of early vocalist Billy Powers. There’s been a long time between eras here, but this has a lot of the early vibes so long-time fans should be stoked.
