The Weekly Injection: New Releases From UNLEASH THE ARCHERS, KNOCKED LOOSE & More Out Today 5/10
This week’s new heavy metal releases include some of the heaviest stuff I’ve ever heard, some rather epic metal, and more! To the metals…
Bossk – .4
Genre: Atmospheric sludge
Origin: Ashford, Kent, England
Label: Deathwish
Buy now on Bandcamp
Getting this week going with some atmospheric heaviness. This one is for the Bossk fanatic though. It is comprised of some re-recordings of deep cuts and some “re-worked” (remixed?) versions of classics by friends of theirs. While this is an unconventional release from the band, this could be a cool way to get into them.
God Mother – Sinneseld
Genre: Mathcore
Origin: Stockholm, Sweden
Label: Self-released
Buy now on Bandcamp
This EP is roughly seven minutes of unrelenting chaos. It has all the madness of Better Lovers with the stoner rock filter of a Baroness. A wild combo and a wild release – as always – from God Mother.
Knocked Loose – You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To
Genre: Metalcore/hardcore
Origin: Oldham County, Kentucky
Label: Pure Noise
Buy now on Bandcamp
Let’s just keep the sonic pummeling going. Knocked Loose are hitting hard with another pissed off record here. There are a couple pretty surprising guest spots from Poppy and Chris Motionless (Motionless In White). However, those do not detract from some of the some of the heaviness stuff I’ve ever heard.
Like Moths To Flames – The Cycles Of Trying To Cope
Genre: Metalcore/post-hardcore
Origin: Columbus, Ohio
Label: UNFD
Buy now on Bandcamp
Up next in a rather drastic tone shift is the latest from Like Moths To Flames. Since their last full record four years ago much of the band has shifted. If you dug their last EP Pure Like Porcelain, you’ll dig this as that was a sample of their current sound.
Anette Olzon – Rapture
Genre: Symphonic metal/rock
Origin: Katrineholm, Sweden –
Label: Frontiers
Buy now on Amazon
On Rapture Anette Olzon is giving you exactly what you’d hope for from a record with a cover like that. This is powerful, epic metal that will get you pumped up. That are moments of melodic death metal here and there as well.
Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats – Nell Ora Blu
Genre: Stoner/psychedelic rock
Origin: Cambridge, England
Label: Rise Above
Buy now on Amazon
If you’re an Uncle Acid fan, you’re about to get an onslaught of material from the band here. This is nineteen tracks of experimental garage rock with tons of riffs but served up as a “tribute to 70s Italian cinema.” Not the typical way for a band to break a six year record gap, but Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats aren’t a typical band. Lauren has a review here.
Unleash The Archers – Phantoma
Genre: Power/melodic death metal
Origin: British Columbia, Canada
Label: Napalm
Buy now on Bandcamp
Concluding this week with one of modern metal’s finest. They band are once again playing in both the power and sci-fi metal realms. This is another one that will get you pumped up, but with this you may feel encourage to conquer the stars or something. Jordan has a full review here.
