The Weekly Injection: New Releases From VILDHJARTA, RIVERS OF NIHIL & More Out This Week 5/30
This week’s new heavy metal releases include prog with honks, metal from hell and/or space, thall, and more! To the metals…
The Haunted – Songs Of Last Resort

Genre: Groove/death metal
Origin: Gothenburg, Sweden
Label: Century Media
Buy now on Bandcamp
The Haunted‘s first album in eight years – and tenth overall – is a melodic death metal masterclass. It’s to the point and effective, yet when you do get frills they’re usually by way of Ola Englund’s shredding.

Obsidian Tongue – Eclipsing Worlds Of Scorn

Genre: Atmospheric/experimental black metal
Origin: Portland, Maine
Label: Profound Lore
Buy now on Bandcamp
What a weird and sinister record this is. Sometimes if feels like you’re in hell and other times in space. If you’re a fan of Wolves In The Throne Room and/or Oranssi Pazuzu, you should check this out.

Rivers Of Nihil – Rivers Of Nihil

Genre: Progressive death metal
Origin: Reading, Pennsylvania
Label: Metal Blade
Buy now on Bandcamp
Rivers of Nihil‘s first album in four years comes after a some pretty big shifts. They’ve got Andy Thomas (Black Crown Initiate) has a full member now and they’ve dropped their vocalist so bassist Adam Biggs is handling harsh vocals. Their is more experimenting than before and it feels like there is a fire under these guys. And if you’re aching for some sax, don’t fret. They’ve got Cyborg Octopus‘s Patrick Corona giving you all the honks.

Vader – Humanihility

Genre: Death metal
Origin: Olsztyn, Poland
Label: Nuclear Blast
Buy now from Nuclear Blast
This is a brief but pretty solid EP. You’re getting a trio of tracks of heavy death metal from one of the OGs. It’s been five years since Solitude in Madness, so hopefully this is just an appetizer before the next feast.

Vildhjarta – + där skogen sjunger under evighetens granar +

Genre: Progressive metal/djent
Origin: Hudiksvall, Sweden
Label: Century Media
Buy now on Bandcamp
+ It’s weird +. + Sometimes bands will take fours years between records and it feels like it’s been so long, but with these guys it was a decade between the first two, so this one being only four feels like a quick turn around +. + Another thing that makes this feel like a gift is that it’s just perfect thall, djent, prog, whatever +. + Not sure what’s up with the plus signs on every track, but I figured I’d show solidarity +.

Wormrot – TNT

Concluding this week with nineteen minutes of madness. This live record celebrates the reunion of their original lineup with a live recording from their TNT Studios. You’re getting a little something from their entire catalog here, so this could serve as an introduction if you’re somehow not already on the Wormrot train.
