Kerry King and his solo band made their debut on May 7 at Reggies in Chicago, IL. The show featured King and crew playing a good chunk of the material from their upcoming debut album From Hell I Rise alongside a handful of Slayer covers, as promised. The full show ran as follows:

  1. “Where I Reign”
  2. “Toxic”
  3. “Rage”
  4. “Repentless” (Slayer song)
  5. “Two Fists”
  6. “Residue”
  7. “Hate Worldwide” (Slayer song)
  8. “Idle Hands”
  9. “Trophies Of The Tyrant”
  10. “Chemical Warfare” (Slayer song)
  11. “Everything I Hate About You”
  12. “Disciple” (Slayer song)
  13. “Shrapnel”
  14. “Crucifixation”
  15. “Raining Blood” (Slayer song)
  16. “Black Magic” (Slayer song)
  17. “From Hell I Rise”

In a recent Q&A as captured by Metal Hammer, King said he’s not interested in playing any material written exclusively by Jeff Hanneman so fans don’t think he’s cashing in on Slayer‘s legacy. Though he does note that “Angel Of Death” – a Hanneman track – at some point.

“For this coming summer in Europe we’re gonna do like nine or 10 tracks from the album and depending on set length fill it with stuff I’ve done – something I wrote in Slayer or co-wrote.” he explained.

“So nobody can say ‘he’s playing Jeff songs!’ because although I love Jeff songs and he was such a big part of my life, I don’t want to rely on it this year, this album cycle. At some point, I will play ‘Angel Of Death’ but there’s so many fucking faceless haters on the internet I don’t want to give them ammunition.”

King also answered if anyone in his band – Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda, former Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph, former Vio-Lence and Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel, and former Hellyeah bassist Kyle Sanders – would get to cover their own band’s songs. Long story short, it’s not entirely out of the question.

“We’ve spoken about covers. But we probably won’t be doing them in June and July, but the format for covers in my band is music from bands that don’t exist anymore. Say for instance, ‘Ace Of Spades’. I want to cover bands that don’t play those songs anymore – like Iron Maiden don’t play the first two albums. Stuff like that which is meaningful and my band can go out and kick the shit out of it.”
