Bad Flamingo – Dead Man’s Hand

Bad Flamingo

The female-fronted duo behind this country-infused rock hit are somewhat mysterious. Their website simply explains who plays what instruments by referring to them as ‘the one on the left’ and ‘the one on the right’. Little else is said, bar a quote from Oscar Wilde which reads: “Give a man a mask and he will tell you the truth.”

I really enjoy ‘Dead Man’s Hand’, although it is difficult to find the right words to say about it. It could easily appear on a soundtrack for a gangster movie, or a show such as Peaky Blinders – it’s dark, and it gives me the image of a cowboy riding up to a remote desert town, being warned off by the local sheriff.

It’s not a track for a party, more one to set up an uncomfortable tone for an adversary. It’s sleek, it’s cool, and it’s excellent.
