Dumb Whales – Communication
‘Communication’, the latest single by Melbourne’s Dumb Whales, feels less like an Aussie rock song and more like a track from the early 90’s Madchester scene. Indeed talking of Manchester (Madchester was the term for music from that area for anyone not in the know) the press relase mentions The Smiths but for me I hear more Stone Roses. Especially the drums. Whilst I guess you could also make an argument for the vocals being a combination of Ian Brown and Liam Gallagher.
The sound all adds up to give an uplifting catchy vibe to a song that is actually sad. In the bands own words: “the song is about regret and remorse that you’ve let someone down”. No one has been let down by this enjoyable release however. Give it a listen below.
