The Weekly Injection: New Releases From PATRIARKH, THE HALO EFFECT & More Out The Weeks Of 1/3 Thru 1/10
The first Weekly Injection of the year includes the debut of a much-hyped nu metal/deathcore hybrid, a supergroup avoiding the sophomore slump, and more! To the metals…
Week of 1/3
Paleface Swiss – Cursed
Genre: Nu metal/deathcore
Origin: Zürich, Switzerland
Label: Blood Blast Disctribution
Buy now on Amazon
Starting this entry off with the belated mention of a much hyped third album from Paleface Swiss. This has the groove and rage of classic Slipknot with the production and, well, rage of modern deathcore. I could see how this could be really fun and intense live. Caitlin has a full review here.
Patriarkh – ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ
Genre: Black metal
Origin: Białystok, Podlaskie, Poland
Label: Napalm
Buy now on Bandcamp
Remember when there were two Batushkas? What a weird time that was. Anyway, one of those has been Patriarkh (or Патриархь) since last year and has been very busy. This is their second record under the new name. It’s epic and evil like you’d hope.

Week of 1/10
Alt Blk Era – Rave Immortal
Genre: Experimental rock
Origin: England, UK
Label: Earache
Buy now on Amazon
Alt Blk Era‘s debut full-length has a lot going on. Rave Immortal has elements of grunge, pop, punk, alternative metal and more. Fans of Slothrust, Poppy, and recent In This Moment will probably dig this.
Ex Deo – Year of the Four Emperors
Genre: Symphonic death metal
Origin: Chicago, Illinois
Label: Reigning Phoenix Music
Buy now here
It’s been four years since Maurizio Iacono (Kataklysm) and his gang of Roman history buff pals dropped a lesson on us, and the wait for more knowledge is finally over. This EP include four massive tracks (presumably one for each emperor) and they’re as catchy as they are heavy.
The Halo Effect – March Of The Unheard
Genre: Melodic death metal
Origin: Gothenburg, Sweden
Label: Nuclear Blast
Buy now on Bandcamp
Next up please find the latest from The Halo Effect which would pair nicely with Ex Deo. The quintet once again show that they know how to do the melodic death metal thing. Pretty rad that this band wasn’t a one-off supergroup, because I’m having a great time with these. Jordan has a full review here.
Tremonti – The End Will Show Us How
Genre: Hard rock/alternative
Origin: Orlando, Florida
Label: Napalm
Buy now on Bandcamp
Honestly, I’m a little surprised to see Mark Tremonti out there with his solo stuff since Creed seems to be in full-effect again. Fans will still surely greet this (say it with me) with arms wide open. Sorry. Anyway, like all his solo stuff I’m sure this will once again reveal his abilities as a truly great and heavier than expected guitarist to some more new fans. The dude knows how to showcase his knowledge of the fretboard via a catchy rock song.
