DYING IN DESIGNER Takes A Turn Towards Metalcore On New Single, “Evil Eyes”

Metal, metalcore, and all of its adjacent genres have been seeing an interesting trend as of late – whether that is a positive or negative thing is all in the eye of the beholder – and it’s the increase of solo metal artists.
And now, alt-rock solo artist dying in designer joins the plethora of solo-metal-adjacent artists testing the waters of what falls under the metal umbrella, by incorporating pop, rock, and elements of hip-hop, alongside various other genres with his brand new single, “Evil Eyes,” out yesterday (6th June). It feels like metal has no limits anymore, and dying in designer is giving it a crack himself.
“Evil Eyes” is a far stretch from dying in designer’s beginning as an emo-rapper. His emotional vulnerability and ability to write a track has seemingly taken him in a different direction as he expands on his original sound, ditching the rapping, and picking up some riffs. It appears as if the emo artist has shifted into a metalcore, or nu-metal, artist that is attempting to stretch into genres that have always inspired him.
Citing Linkin Park and Slipknot as inspirations, dying in designer and his newest metalcore track heavily blended with pop bring a new question to the table – what is metal in the 21st century, how do we define it, and what does it look like?
I have no clue.
