DEFTONES Pays Tribute to BRENT HINDS During First Show On Brand New Tour
On Friday evening, Mastodon dedicated their entire performance at the Alaska State Fair to Brent Hinds, who passed away tragically last week in a motorcycle accident. Drummer Brann Dailor took a moment to speak to the crowd about Hinds, stating at the end: “We’re at a loss for words. We’re absolutely devastated and crushed to lose him and to be able to never have him back again. But you guys made it okay for us to come on stage and do this tonight. So that was for fucking [Hinds], okay?! Thank you guys so much.”
That same Friday night in Vancouver, Deftones also paid tribute to Brent Hinds in their own way, dedicating their song “Entombed” to the recently departed guitarist. Mastodon and Deftones have toured together previously, so it comes as no surprise that frontman Chino Moreno wanted to say something about Hinds‘ passing: “Yo, I wanna dedicate this song to a very dear friend, Mr. Brent Hinds.”

As noted by Stereogum, “Entombed” hadn’t been played since 2017 until Deftones‘ livestream on Thursday, the 21st of August, when they hosted an exclusive livestream where the band performed some of the tracks off their brand new record, private music, released on Friday, the 22nd of August, ahead of the release.
