BRING ME THE HORIZON’s OLI SYKES On Delayed New Music: “There Are Other Things That Are Important In My Life Now”

Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes has revealed that the band were close to dropping new music this past summer — but fatherhood ultimately reshaped his priorities.

Speaking with NME, Sykes admitted he had originally planned to release two singles ahead of their Rock Am Ring and Reading & Leeds 2025 festival appearances. “I wanted new music out this year,” he said. “I’ve got so much from the Nex Gen archive that I want the world to hear. I literally phoned my label and management and said, ‘It’s nearly here, I’ve got 12 songs and they’re all bangers. They’re so close, we’re going to get the first single out before Rock Am Ring and the second before Reading & Leeds.'”

Those plans were shelved after the singer became a father to twin daughters in July. “The music will come, but it’s just not the be-all and end-all,” Sykes reflected. “We’re realising that we don’t have to put another record out; we just put one out. Most bands would go away for two years, have an actual break. You don’t have to do this, but I want to and I enjoy it. If it doesn’t happen, then it doesn’t happen.”

Sykes admitted he felt conflicted about not meeting fans’ expectations for new material this summer, but emphasized the importance of family: “There are other things that are important in my life now and I’ve got to make sure that they come first.”

Still, he believes the delay will ultimately benefit both the band and fans: “Ultimately, that’s going to help the process and help us make some really good music. I can already feel that. I feel comfortable that the band is fine and we’re doing alright. We don’t need to do better. That will help with the output.”

Bring Me The Horizon released their ambitious latest album Post Human: Nex Gen in May 2024, and have since been touring heavily in support of it. While no new release date has been confirmed, Sykes‘ comments suggest the band’s next chapter is already in motion — just arriving later than initially planned.
