Hotspit – Obsessive Care
‘Obsessive Care’ is a track which grabs your attention from the first second, with a pulsating heavy guitar riff which gives way to melodic, laid-back acoustics. Hotspit’s lead singer’s voice is incredibly soothing and works brilliantly to underline the vast contrasts between the softer and harder segments of the track – the latter of which returns near to the end.
A rip-roaring five minutes encompassing multiple layers of the Virginia band’s sound, ‘Obsessive Care’ is a joy to listen to. It’s the band’s first single release (although they have demos and live sessions available to hear on all streaming platforms) and also the first from an upcoming, as-of-yet untitled EP. According to Hotspit, “This song has our classic singer-songwriter roots mixed with the direction we are heading more intently in which is a more powerful, indie rock group. The lyrics were inspired by a messy breakup and the confusion of missing a loved one and not knowing how to reach out.”
They’ve been together as a band for three years now, and you can tell that they’ve used this time to refine their abilities and create a coherent and dynamic sound. Their EP should be a beautiful collection of their finest work to date, and a building block for the future as they seek to break into a music market which can so often be crowded. Hotspit have real talent and ability, and this shines through on ‘Obsessive Care’.
