Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen Launch ‘Portlandia’ Rewatch Podcast
Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen are set to revisit the quirky, beloved world of Portlandia with a brand-new podcast. The duo, who defined a generation of sketch comedy with their IFC series, will rewatch episodes of the show, offering fans a fresh perspective on the satire that captured the spirit of Portland.
Titled Podlandia: A-O Rewatch, the series is produced by Will Ferrell and iHeartMedia’s Big Money Players. The podcast is scheduled to hit major platforms weekly beginning July 16, with a companion video version available on YouTube.
“Our hope with the Portlandia rewatch podcast is to continue the conversations we began when the show first aired,” Brownstein said in a statement. “Conversations around community, how a place shapes and defines us, how much of life is mere performance, and how absurdity is often the best way to make sense of the world.”
Brownstein added that the process of revisiting the show has been a nostalgic experience. “Revisiting these episodes also reminded me of the ways Fred is singularly hilarious; we loved getting to hang out and reminisce, sing the praises of the cast, crew, and the city itself, and to have a new means of connecting with our audience.”
The podcast will feature a rotating cast of guests, including co-creator Jonathan Krisel, actor Kyle MacLachlan—who famously portrayed the mayor of Portland—and recurring guest Aimee Mann.
Fred Armisen expressed similar enthusiasm for the project. “Re-watching these Portlandia episodes was so enjoyable,” he noted. “I really laughed, which is a strange thing to say about something I’m in. Carrie made me laugh a lot, maybe I’ll put it that way. It was all illuminating and it sparked so many memories of shooting in beautiful Portland.”
Portlandia originally aired for eight seasons and 77 episodes on IFC, concluding its run in 2018. With Podlandia: A-O Rewatch, the creators aim to provide an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the show’s legacy, ensuring that the humor and heart of the series continue to resonate with both long-time fans and new viewers alike.
