Martin Garrix and The Edge Debut New U2 Collaboration ‘Fireflies’
Electronic music superstar Martin Garrix electrified the crowd at Tomorrowland in Antwerp, Belgium, this past Friday by debuting a brand-new collaboration titled “Fireflies.” The track, which features the unmistakable guitar work of The Edge, marks the latest chapter in a long-standing creative partnership between the DJ and the legendary rock band U2.
During the performance, The Edge’s signature atmospheric guitar textures layered perfectly over Bono’s prerecorded vocals. Garrix took to social media shortly after the set to confirm that the single will be released soon, even providing fans with a pre-save link to ensure they are among the first to hear the studio version.
This collaboration is far from the first time these artists have crossed paths. Over the past decade, Garrix and the Irish rockers have developed a consistent working relationship. They previously teamed up for the UEFA 2020 tournament anthem “We Are the People” and collaborated on the track “Your Song Saved My Life,” which was featured on the Sing 2 soundtrack. Furthermore, Bono has contributed his songwriting talents to several of Garrix’s solo singles, including “Angels for Each Other,” “Catherina,” and “Weightless.”
While “Fireflies” has certainly generated buzz, it remains unclear if the song is a standalone project, a teaser for a new Martin Garrix LP, or a track destined for U2’s upcoming studio album. The band recently unveiled “Street of Dreams,” the lead single from their highly anticipated new record, which is expected to arrive later this year.
U2’s forthcoming album is particularly significant, as it is timed to coincide with the band’s 50th anniversary. It will serve as their first collection of new material since 2017’s Songs of Experience and their first major release since 2023’s Songs of Surrender.
