Katy Kirby – Cool Dry Place
Katy Kirby is a young singer songwriter originally from Nashville and now based in Texas. She has an intriguingly androgynous look about her, emphasized by the cover photo for her debut album where she is stood in a vest top and jeans in a cactus field. She certainly has a physical resemblance to a young KD Lang.
Katy clearly has the image and the coolness but does she have the talent? Well judging by her new single it is a yes from me. Katy has just released the title track of her upcoming debut album ‘Cool Dark Place’ out on 19th February 2021 as a single.
The song opens with an exquisitely beautiful acoustic guitar and Katy’s gorgeous almost whispered voice before the accompaniment kicks in as the song beautifully progresses with some outstanding percussion work before taking on a rockier feel as she explores her anxieties about relationships and letting any potential partner get too close. The song then builds into a soaring and unexpected lengthy instrumental crescendo before gradually quieting down to an almost silent finish.
