Piss Kitti – For The Lovers
‘For The Lovers’ is the debut EP from Liverpool-based post-punk quartet Piss Kitti.
It’s a record which has been a couple of years in the making, after the band burst on to the local music scene in Merseyside back in 2019.
Laced with anarchic, punk vibes, ‘For The Lovers’ boasts a handful of abrasive yet loveable tracks which address top talking points like sex, queerness, and gender.
‘Baby, Stain Me’ is a swaggering Debbie Harry-esque anthem that bounces into your life with punk-inspired drums, soaring guitars and a stunningly catchy hook.
The EP then bursts into life with that full throttle punk attitude smashing through the glass ceiling on ‘Hey You’. Clattering percussion, venomous vocals, and screeching guitars demand your attention.
A supremely clever inclusion on the EP, ‘Turn You Over (Keep On Comin’ On)’ is a perfectly timed-track following the raucous and visceral ‘Hey You’ with its gentler poppy vibes. A rumbling bassline carries the whole thing forward and lays the foundation for rocky symbols to accompany the calmer guitars.
‘Rollerblade’ turns up the temperature again in the form of a driving, chanted hook which stays with you long after the record ends. A brilliant track we can easily visualise hitting the roof in an awesome small music venue in one of the band’s trademark feverish live shows.
The romantic turmoil in which this EP is firmly lodged ensures it comes from such a raw place. It’s this unflinching, emotive platform which makes ‘For The Lovers’ such a strong body of work. The perfect introduction to this dangerous dynamic four-piece.
Piss Kitti play The Sunflower Lounge for Indie Midlands on August 6th. You can purchase a ticket here.
