Tory Lanez Files $100 Million Lawsuit Against California Prison System

Tory Lanez has filed a $100 million lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections, alleging systemic failures that led to a violent attack against him in May 2025. The rapper, born Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence following his conviction in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case.

The legal action, which also names the warden and guards at the California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi, details an “unprovoked life-threatening attack” in which Peterson was stabbed 16 times by a fellow inmate. The lawsuit highlights the severity of the incident, noting that Peterson suffered a collapsed lung and multiple stab wounds to his torso, back, and head, requiring urgent hospitalization.

Negligence and Safety Concerns

Central to the lawsuit is the claim that the Department of Corrections acted with negligence by housing Peterson with his alleged attacker, Santino Casio. Casio, who was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder, was identified in the filing as a known danger. The lawsuit argues that prison officials failed to account for Peterson’s high-profile celebrity status, which made him a target within the facility.

Furthermore, the legal filing criticizes the prison’s response time during the assault. It alleges that guards were slow to intervene and failed to utilize standard safety protocols, such as flash grenades, to neutralize the threat posed by Casio. Notably, the lawsuit points out that Casio was not formally charged for the stabbing of Peterson.

Post-Incident Complications

Beyond the physical trauma of the attack, the lawsuit addresses the loss of personal property. Following his hospitalization, Peterson was transferred to the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo. He alleges that he never received his personal belongings from the Tehachapi facility, which included songbooks containing lyrics for his unreleased music.

This legal challenge arrives as Peterson continues to serve his sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Despite his efforts to appeal the conviction, a three-judge panel upheld his 10-year sentence in November 2025, leaving this new lawsuit as a significant development in his ongoing Criminal Justice saga.
