Vox Rea – Reset
‘Reset’ is the rather aptly-named new single from Vancouver quartet Vox Rea. The song was released on January 22nd.
The first thing I noticed about ‘Reset’ was the nostalgic, almost Sixties-feeling vibe which was created through the carefree drum beats and the band’s gorgeous vocal harmonies. I love the summery guitars and bass and just one listen filled me with so much happiness. It’s definitely a track if you’re looking for a chilled-out escape from the stress of every day life, something which has only ramped up across the last year.
“Reset is a song about fresh starts and new love for the beginning of 2021,” the band says. “It has a simplistic optimism that contrasts the more heavy songs on our record. It’s a song that doesn’t take itself too seriously and we had a lot of fun making it. Though we wrote it pre-pandemic, ‘you’re the cure I’ve been searching for’ has really taken on a whole new meaning this year.”
Vox Rea features Kate Kurdyak (lead vocals/piano/guitar/bass), her sister Lauren Kurdyak (vocals/piano), childhood best friend Kaitlyn Hansen-Boucher (vocals/percussion) and Berklee-alum Mitchell Schaumberg (vocals/piano/guitar/bass). The three women grew up singing in choirs – which goes some way to explaining how their vocals are so beautiful (I could honestly listen to them sing all day).
‘Reset’ follows 2020’s ‘Dose Me Up’ and ‘Sinatra’, and provides a really promising look at their upcoming second LP. I’m definitely going to be giving it a listen when it comes out.
