DISTURBED’s Belgian Show Cancelled Over DAVID DRAIMAN’s Photo Signing IDF Missiles

The mayor of Vorst, Belgium, has officially banned an upcoming Disturbed concert, citing public safety concerns stemming from frontman David Draiman’s outspoken support for the Israeli army – namely that one picture where he’s signing missiles that’ll kill people shortly thereafter.

Disturbed was scheduled to play Vorst Nationaal on Wednesday, October 15, but the plug has now been pulled following a police order issued by Mayor Charles Spapens (PS) according to De Standaard.

The controversy surrounding the show began earlier this year, when Draiman — long known for his political commentary — posted a photo in June 2024 from an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) base, where he was seen signing a bomb reportedly intended for Gaza. The image, which circulated widely on social media, triggered backlash — especially after it resurfaced during a heated online spat between Draiman and Irish pro-Palestinian rap collective Kneecap.

Things escalated further when Draiman was booed during a surprise appearance at Black Sabbath’s farewell show in Birmingham, just weeks after the incident reignited online.

Mayor Spapens had previously voiced concern in September, calling the concert “morally problematic.” At the time, he admitted the city had limited power over the venue’s programming but indicated discomfort with Draiman’s planned appearance.

Now, citing the potential for large-scale protests and safety concerns, the mayor has issued a formal police order to shut the show down. Speaking to Belgian outlet Belga, Spapens said: “My priority and responsibility are the safety of the residents, spectators, demonstrators, and Forest National staff. Given the police’s unfavorable assessment after a risk analysis and the venue’s location in a residential area, it was my duty to make this decision.”

Earlier this week, Bruzz magazine reported that several activist groups were planning demonstrations outside the venue. Serge Stephan of Intal Globalize Solidarity stated: “We will not prevent anyone from entering the concert hall. This action is not directed against the fans, but against the band, Live Nation, and Forest National.”

Protesters from groups including the ABVV (General Federation of Belgian Labour), ACV, and the Front Antifasciste Bruxellois (Brussels Antifascist Front) were expected to draw a crowd of over 500 demonstrators.
