Vol. 1 is a seven-LP vinyl box set from progressive metal pioneers Dream Theater, which will be released on September 27, 2024, through Rhino. The collection includes the band’s first four studio albums with James LaBrie at the mic: Images And Words, Awake, Falling Into Infinity, and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory.

Vol. 1 chronicles Dream Theater‘s evolution during the 1990s, emphasizing their dynamic growth and intricate musicianship. Images And Words (1992), a milestone in the band’s career, achieved gold status and earned a spot on Rolling Stone‘s 100 Greatest Metal Albums Of All Time. This album features iconic tracks such as “Pull Me Under,” “Another Day,” and “Metropolis – Part 1: The Miracle And The Sleeper.”

Guitar World recognized Awake (1994) as the top album of 1994 in its Superunknown: 50 Iconic Albums That Defined 1994. The creative momentum continued with Falling Into Infinity (1997), and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory (1999) has since become a celebrated classic. According to a Rolling Stone poll, it was voted the “number one all-time progressive rock album,” and Classic Rock ranked it as the “15th greatest concept album.”

Limited to only 2,500 copies worldwide, Vol. 1 will be the first one in a series of box sets, followed by Vol. 2 and Vol. 3, set for release in 2025. Get your pre-orders here.
