PINKSHIFT Shift Towards Metal On New Single, “Evil Eye”

Pinkshift‘s previous releases have always lingered comfortably in the riotgrrrl sound, encompassing messy vocals and full-throttled riffs but their newest single, “Evil Eye,” shifts – or rather, takes a hard left – towards raunchy, angry metal.
Frontwoman Ashrita explains of the track, “The year is 2025: we are living in the age of mass surveillance, where they are watching you. They’re watching everything you do. They know who you talk to, they know what you like, they know where you live, they know what you look like. You better not slip up.”

Throughout their career, Pinkshift have been incredibly outspoken about the socio- and geopolitical issues that are currently causing us to live through ‘unprecedented times,’ and “Evil Eye” is truly no different.
The title of the song “Evil Eye” itself is a double entendre. Technically, in Greek culture, the charm of the evil eye itself is supposed to ward off people sending bad luck your way. But, it’s also a commentary on the “curse” of the evil eye and what we’re currently living through.
