The Weekly Injection: New Releases From SÓLSTAFIR, DELAIN & More Out This Week 11/8
This week’s new heavy metal releases include a constant collaborator doing their own thing, a collection of songs showcasing a new vocalist, and more! To the metals…
The Body – The Crying Out Of Things
Genre: Experimental metal
Origin: Providence, Rhode Island
Label: Thrill Jockey
Buy now on Bandcamp
Starting this week in a weird and dark place. This is a noisy and heavy one as one would expect from The Body. Always fun to hear what these guys do on their own when they are so prone to a collaboration, and this is their first strictly “The Body” record since 2021.
Counterparts – Heaven Let Them Die
Genre: Metalcore
Origin: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Label: Pure Noise
Buy from Pure Noise
This was a surprise release that dropped yesterday and what a release it is. You’re getting six tracks of melodic angst, breakdowns, technical flurries. They’re touting it as their more aggressive outing yet, and it’s hard to argue with them.
Delain – Dance With The Devil
Genre: Symphonic metal
Origin: Zwolle, Overijssel, Netherlands
Label: Napalm
Buy now on Bandcamp
This is probably one for strictly big Delain fans. You’re getting a couple of new tracks, some live stuff, and some instrumental versions of songs you know. It ultimately serves as a showcase of new-ish singer Diana Leah since it includes her performing older songs.
Earthburner – Permanent Dawn
Genre: Death metal/grindcore
Origin: Chicago, Illinois
Label: M-Theory
Buy now on Bandcamp
What happens when you mix some Broken Hope, with some Gloryhole Guillotine and some Sanguisugabogg? Why, Earthburner of course! This is the crushing debut from this supergroup and it’s a short one, but it’s a solid one.
Make Them Suffer – Make Them Suffer
Genre: Deathcore
Origin: Perth, Australia –
Label: SharpTone
Buy now on Amazon
Ready to headbang? Good. This is all grooves and heaviness. Lil djenty, quite melodic, and overall the perfect record to break this band’s four year fast between records. Also, this is their first to include Alex Reade on keys and vocals.
Molder – Catastrophic Reconfiguration
Genre: Death metal/thrash
Origin: Shorewood, Illinois
Label: Prosthetic
Buy now on Bandcamp
Here’s one for the lovers of old school. Molder are meshing thrash energy, death metal fury, and the raw-ish production style of both genres’ classic eras. The result is another nasty and haunted record.
The Pineapple Thief – Last To Run
Genre: Progressive rock
Origin: Yeovil, Somerset, England
Label: Kscope
Buy now on Bandcamp
Back in February these prolific progsters released their record It Leads to This, and they’re already back with more. These five tracks serve as a continuation of the full-length and give you just a little bit more Bruce Soord and Gavin Harrison greatness, and who can be mad at that?
Sólstafir – Helga Kvöl
Genre: Post-rock/black metal
Origin: Reykjavík, Iceland
Label: Century Media
Buy now on Bandcamp
Taking this week home with some atmospheric goodness from Sólstafir. This is a perfect balance of beauty and dark. The drums are weirdly all over the place on the tracks I’ve heard, and it’s great. Hallgrímur Jón Hallgrímsson is giving you blasting, disco beats, and more.
