TONY IOMMI to Guest Star on Upcoming ROBBIE WILLIAMS Record
Robbie Williams may be remembered for a lot of things, like his numerous awards, slew of pop hits in the UK, and his legacy as a member of the pop-duo Take That, but honestly his enduring legacy in my mind is that horrifying 2000 music video for “Rock DJ” where he strips naked, then keeps going, tearing his flesh off and becoming raw blood and muscle. That video lives rent-free in my head and disturbed me at a young age the way no metal band ever has. So perhaps it’s vaguely appropriate that he’s teaming up with Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi for a track on Williams’ upcoming album.
Williams’ drummer and musical director Karl Brazil broke the news in an interview with the Percussion Discussion podcast (which was transcribed by Blabbermouth). “One of the tracks, actually, [Robbie]’s done a track called ‘Rocket’ with Tony Iommi,” said Brazil, “which is very random. It’s great. It’s a rocker, and it’s really, really cool. Right up my street. It’s kinda… I’ll just let you hear it. But yeah, Tony‘s done his thing on it. There’s some great collaborations on this record. [SUPERGRASS‘s] Gaz Coombes is on there.”
“It’s predominately a guitar record,” said Brazil, continuing on about the upcoming Robbie Williams record, “a bit of a throwback to his old ’90s sound but mixed with a bit of modern-day pop as well. Let’s face it, [Robbie] can do what he wants, can’t he?!” I guess so, but I personally hope that whatever he wants includes keeping his skin on.
