The Jesus Lizard has announced the cancellation of their October and November 2025 tour plans due to a serious health issue affecting one of the band members. The scrapped dates include shows in New Zealand, Australia, and Japan in October, as well as U.S. dates scheduled for November.

The good news for fans: the affected member’s prognosis is excellent, and while no makeup dates are currently planned, the group’s statement leaves the door open for future touring once recovery is complete. In a statement released, the band explained:

The Jesus Lizard regret to announce the cancellation of their scheduled Oct 2025 dates in New Zealand, Australia and Japan, as well as their Nov dates in the US. Upon the advice of medical professionals following a serious health incident affecting one of the band members, it is considered necessary as a precautionary measure.

“The band would like to convey their apologies to disappointed fans and emphasize that the affected member’s prognosis is excellent. Your understanding and support are very much appreciated as always. As we cannot currently project replacement dates, refunds will be available at point of purchase.”

Formed in Chicago in 1987, The Jesus Lizard became one of the defining names in noise rock throughout the late ’80s and ’90s, known for their ferocious live shows and confrontational energy. Their discography — which includes influential albums like Goat in 1991, Liar in 1992, and Down in 1994 — earned them a devoted cult following and respect across punk, alternative, and underground music scenes.

The band initially broke up in 1999, with members pursuing various other projects. But in 2008, The Jesus Lizard reunited for a string of live shows, including festival appearances and club dates. That reunion continued intermittently, with sporadic touring over the next decade.

For years, fans speculated whether they would ever return to the studio — and in late 2024, they finally did. Their comeback album, Rack, marked The Jesus Lizard‘s first new studio release in 25 years. The record was met with critical acclaim, praised for capturing the band’s signature intensity while showing a sharpened sense of purpose honed over decades.

Since then, The Jesus Lizard has released three additional singles called “Hide & Seek”, “I’m Tired of Being Your Mother”, and “Westside”. Because if you’re gonna go hard on a reunion, you might as well go as hard as you can. Here’s hoping The Jesus Lizard makes a return as soon as they can, and safely.
