Chaos at Sea: Aboard Little Steven’s 2026 Underground Garage Cruise

The 2026 installment of Little Steven’s Underground Garage Cruise set sail for Cozumel, Mexico, in April with a loud and rowdy passenger manifest. The voyage, produced by Sixthman, proved once again to be one of the most vibrant floating parties in the music world, blending classic garage-rock energy with a sense of community that only a ship-bound festival can provide.

Headliners Social Distortion, led by a no-nonsense Mike Ness, commanded the stage with raw power, previewing tracks from their latest album, Born to Kill, alongside staples like “Ball and Chain.” The emotional weight of the cruise was anchored by Jesse Malin, who continues his inspiring comeback following a 2023 spinal stroke. Malin delivered two rousing sets, standing heroically to perform for a crowd that clearly recognized the significance of his return to the stage.

The musical diversity was a hallmark of the trip. U.K. new wave icons the Buzzcocks reminded fans why they remain punk royalty, while garage revivalists like the Surfrajettes and the Courettes brought a distinct, stylish flair to the proceedings. The Surfrajettes even hosted a memorable late-night pajama party performance, further cementing the cruise’s reputation for unique, fan-focused experiences.

Other highlights included the wonderfully bizarre antics of the Goons, who staged a mock “heist” in the ship’s jewelry store, and the high-energy piano-driven rock of Jason D. Williams. Adam Weiner of Low Cut Connie provided perhaps the most iconic moment of the voyage: at the conclusion of his set, he marched directly to the pool, shed his loafers, and dove in to swim a few laps.

As the ship returned to port, the legacy of the voyage was already looking toward the future. Little Steven and his team have already announced that the 2027 voyage will be headlined by the Damned and X, promising another year of high-octane rock & roll on the water.
