During a recent concert at Toronto’s RBC Amphitheatre, veteran singer-songwriter Christopher Cross took a moment to address the current political climate in the United States, offering an apology to his Canadian audience. The musician, known for yacht rock staples such as “Sailing” and “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do),” did not mince words when discussing the current administration.

“I’m just very sorry and embarrassed that we have an asshole for a president,” Cross stated from the stage, urging the crowd not to “give up on us.” He emphasized that the upcoming election represents a critical opportunity for the U.S. to rectify its current path. Cross, who opened his set with his 2011 track “Dreamers,” drew parallels between the current political tension and the civil rights struggles of the past, referencing a snippet of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

The singer’s comments come amid heightened diplomatic friction between the two nations. Recent reports indicate that the Trump administration has taken aggressive stances regarding trade and geography, including controversial executive orders and the imposition of significant tariffs on Canadian goods. Cross acknowledged the strain, noting, “We can be victims of corporate greed together,” while expressing hope for a return to normalized trade relations following the next election cycle.
