Courtney Clenney Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Boyfriend’s Death

Courtney Clenney, an OnlyFans model whose boyfriend died after she stabbed him in what she claimed was an act of self-defense in 2022, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Clenney was facing second-degree murder charges after fatally stabbing her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, in April 2022 at their Miami condominium. On Monday, Clenney entered a plea of guilty to manslaughter as part of a negotiated agreement with prosecutors.

Under the terms of the deal, Clenney was sentenced to six years in prison. Having been incarcerated since her initial arrest in 2022, she is expected to be eligible for release in approximately two years. Following her release, she will serve five years of probation and must undergo a mandatory mental health evaluation and treatment. Had she been convicted of the original second-degree murder charge, Clenney could have faced up to 30 years in prison.

“With this plea agreement, Christian Obumseli’s family finally heard what they long sought: Courtney Clenney accepting full responsibility for his death,” Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in a statement following the hearing. “The Assistant State Attorneys handling this case have remained focused on the core evidence that Clenney stabbed Christian Obumseli as part of a pattern of escalating violence toward him. While nothing can heal the wounds caused on that day in April, I hope today’s guilty plea brings his family a measure of justice too long denied.”

The prosecution’s case against Clenney centered on the couple’s allegedly volatile relationship, with the state characterizing Obumseli as a victim of domestic abuse. Conversely, defense attorneys maintained that Clenney was the victim of an abusive relationship and acted in self-defense during the fatal encounter. On the night of the incident, Clenney, then 26, contacted emergency services after stabbing the 27-year-old Obumseli.

Defense attorney Frank Prieto previously stated that Clenney attempted to administer first aid to Obumseli before emergency responders arrived. Following the incident, the Miami-Dade County medical examiner officially ruled Obumseli’s death a homicide.

In 2023, the Obumseli family initiated a wrongful death lawsuit against Clenney. According to reports, a notice of settlement was filed in December 2025, and by March of this year, the civil claims against Clenney were voluntarily dismissed with prejudice.
