Wy – That Picture Of Me
‘That Picture Of Me’ is the latest single from Malmo-based indie outfit Wy.
We recently brought you word of their comeback single ‘Dream House’ on the back of the impending release of their third album ‘Marriage’.
Wy have shown no signs of slowing down their return after the success of their 2019 second album ‘Softie’. Now, weeks after ‘Dream House’ hit he virtual shelves, they’re on to the next single release ‘That Picture Of Me’.
Fans of the band’s switch in sound on the last single will be happy to know they’ve stayed true to their alterations. Committing fully on ‘That Picture Of Me’ to their newly fashioned grand yet intimate sound, the duo have a strong track here.
Twanging guitars accompany rhythmic percussion before Ebba Gustafsson Ågren’s stunning vocal comes through. The track continues to build this way until, like the first single off the new record, it completely fills out the space between the lines with a cinematic sound.
The vibrant guitars create a stunning electric soundscape while Ebba’s vocal drifts ethereally over the whole thing.
Our only criticism is that it’s far too short. With the abrupt ending you’re left feeling somewhat half-cocked. That heady soundscape is a thing of real beauty and Wy have got its creation down to a fine art.
It’s all looking good for ‘Marriage’ when it drops in May. In my humble opinion, ‘That Picture Of Me’ is their best work to date.
