Bad Flamingo – Mamma Raised You Right
‘Mama Raised You Right’ is the second track from Bad Flamingo which I’ve heard, and it continues the Western movie-inspired tone which was so present on ‘Dead Man’s Hand’. As much as I loved DMH, this one is even better to me.
This track is even catchier than their last release, with a chorus featuring variations of the title. The song is populated by a brass backing and country twangs, which set this song thematically firmly pre-1930s. I’ve never wanted to be an outlaw in the US Midwest before so much in my life.
‘Mama Raised You Right’ is a great song to play to set a tone for a gathering, and (if you listen to it enough) sing along to. If the reasoning behind Bad Flamingo’s anonymity is along the lines of wanting to be judged for their music as opposed to their personalities, then I think they’re brilliant.
