Jet City Sports Club – Spinning Me Out
The alternative Aussie scene is really booming at the moment and Jet City Sports Club are aboard the hype train with their new airy dance along track ‘Spinning Me Out’, a summer road trip must that could soundtrack your summer should you let it. And you should. A free spirited song carrying us out of the troubling times that we’re all facing.
After releasing their debut single ‘Bloodhounds’ in December 2020, they have followed up quickly with this sophomore release.
‘Spinning Me Out’ starts with a beautiful light airy guitar lick which reminds me of a classic indie sound that brings back memories of seeing bands like this live. The floaty melody carries the song into the clean light vocals from lead singer Lilla as she sings about escaping from somewhere, which I’m sure we can all relate too. The four-piece indie rock band then come together in the chorus tofor a catchy singalong about welcoming a better day. The bright guitars and effortless vocals capture the mood perfectly without strain or stress, which is a surprise as this is the first song they did together as a band.
A soft guitar solo transcends into the final chorus where all the band accompany the singer in a calming shared atmosphere. If nostalgia was a song it’s this one. The drums are so soft yet carry a beat so effortlessly, they accompany the guitars perfectly, it’s just like an acoustic summer road trip captured in one song.
“‘Please just remember me when RAGE comes on the morning TV’ is a key line that captured the essence of the song and what it’s like to have a big night out and end up being alone watching TV at a weird hour of the day and processing it all” said the band. And I think we can all say we’ve experienced this one.
You can really feel the inspiration they’ve taken from fellow Aussie acts, bands like DMA’s and others who have made it in the UK. Hopefully The Sydney quartet can follow in their steps. They also said they take big inspiration from American alt rock legends The Pixies and also like to delve into the 90s brit-pop scene here and there.
After asking the band if a trip to the UK was in their plans they responded “as soon as we can get over there safely, we will.” Great news for the British fan base they are creating.
Hopefully we see more new tracks from Jet City Sports Club in 2021 and maybe a UK tour in the near future.
