Sendmeyourmoney – Water Me
Sendmeyourmoney is the boldly-named alias of Vancouver singer and producer Alessia Turco. ‘Water Me’ is a wonderful track which places Turco well within the growing number of young female musicians combining raw musical talent and adapting autotune as an instrument to create ethereal masterpieces.
This ponderous, emotional song wouldn’t look out of place on one of Charli XCX’s more experimental mixtapes. Turco’s haunting vocals are interspersed with soft beats, sound and vocal effects, and bass which at times sounds like whale sonar waves. About her inspiration for the track, she says: “I wrote this song from a period of depression transitioning into a period of growth and self-actualization, reaching my fullest potential, wanting to feel the air in my lungs and the wind between my fingers, and finally feeling like a part of this earth.”.
Being quite a fan of what some have termed ‘hyperpop’, I’m in love with ‘Water Me’ because it has a soft edge and genuine sadness which isn’t lost amongst all of the electronics – an impressive achievement from such a young artist. She has spiritually grown as a person, and now I can’t wait to see her spiritually grow into an accomplished, recognised musician.
