PREMIERE: Tom Williams Releases New LP Titled ‘Follow The Leader’

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of his first album, Tom Williams dropped a brand new record titled ‘Follow The Leader.’ The collection boasts rich orchestral sounds and full-band performances mixed with claustrophobic drum machines, synthesizers, walls of heavy guitars, and deep sub-bass. Known for his melodically rich, and classic songwriting Tom Williams delivered an album that shares his most eclectic and thought-provoking creation to date.

‘Follow The Leader’ signifies a departure from Williams’ previous output. Tom wanted to pull away from his more folky leanings and embrace a more experimental production approach. Encouraged by friend and mentor, Keane’s Tim Rice-Oxley (who co-produced Tom’s previous album), the pair made a concerted effort to push the production in new directions.

When asked about his inspiration to create the album, Tom explains, I wanted the album to be scary, dystopian, the loudest I’d ever been but also the quietest and most intimate. I thought I had the record just right and then the pandemic hit. I think the 6 months at the end of 2020 made the album even more extreme and all the better for it!

The album was initially finished in March 2020, but sensing a significant societal change once lockdown kicked in, Tom was forced to reconsider the album he thought he had finished. This time he wanted to rip things up and start again, setting about making an album with the energy of a debut.
