Tyron Freeman – Keep It Hid, Locked Away

Tyron Freeman

There is nothing better than an energetic, ass-kicking, rock and roll song at the end of a long day that gives you a push to just keep on going. If anybody is looking for powerful solos, heavy riffs and strong vocals, Tyron Freeman’s new single ‘Keep It Hid, Locked Away’ will be your perfect cup of tea or a glass of whisky. Whichever you prefer.

Tyron comes from Liverpool and is currently living in Hamburg, but listening to his music one could swear the boy’s from the Mid-Atlantic parts of the US of A (New York, New Jersey, Virginia). There is not a single trace of Brit pop, Liverpudlian brooding psychedelia or Germanic alternative rock and roll in his songs, only pure American (hard) rock. What’s more, ‘Keep It Hid, Locked Away’ sounds very 1980’s in the best sense of the word. Think Twisted Sister, Dee Snyder, Bon Jovi, The Goo Goo Dolls at their prime – this is where we are. An unapologetic, energetic wild ride bringing a great sense of freedom to listeners.

I’m surprised that only one British band managed to conquer the American music market so far since we cannot really complain about the lack of talented artists. And to prevent any guesses, no it’s not The Beatles. It was Bush, at the beginning of the 1990’s with their debut album ‘Sixteen Stone’ that showed the Yankees how to play. Tyron Freeman has the same potential, the same spark that made Bush stand out. I can bet my vintage record collection that if properly invested in, Tyron could soon be a household name on the other side of the pond. Geffen, Interscope, Subpop should really be paying attention.

Meantime, I truly hope that his native Scouse music lovers (and not only them!) will give him a proper chance and embrace his uniqueness and originality. Hand on heart, you will not find anybody playing this type of music in the North of England and only a few on the British Americana/folk scene can match his voice. Tyron Freeman, is a wild card, with skills, truly good voice and an idea of what he wants to do.

‘Keep It Hid, Locked Away’ was recorded at the fabulously (in)famous Parr Studios in Liverpool with Chris Taylor as producer (Blossoms, Lightning Seeds, The Coral) and released as a single on 2nd of February 2021. Chris recently threw all his skills behind The Lathmus, but in my humble opinion, Tyron eats the moody four for an All American breakfast.

Keep your eyes open, if the next releases are as good as this one, Tyron will be on his way up, very quickly. He just needs to be given a chance.
